Connection and belonging is at the heart of a healthy community.
Although modern technology allows the world to be more connected than ever before, many people feel increasingly isolated and are craving a sense of belonging. I was fortunate to grow up in a strong, connected community and I want others and our next generation of children to also have the opportunity to share this experience.
Local government can play an important role in facilitating community cohesiveness and I am dedicated to promoting a positive community spirit that brings people together.
Some of the initiatives I have supported to build community include:
-
a focus on mental health with free first aid courses for our community, mental health week community events & workshops and the establishment of a suicide prevention group;
-
supporting creative & engaging events that bring people together such as WonderRealm;
-
empowering community groups to connect with their local communities;
-
support for neighbour day initiatives;
-
promoting an inclusive and welcoming community through becoming a refugee welcome zone;
