I'm proud to have modeled a culture within our Council that is positive, progressive & collaborative.

During my time as Mayor, the Town of Bassendean has been undergoing a major transformation to better align the organisation with the priorities and expectations of our community.   Over recent months we have been recruiting our new executive leadership team to shift the organisation towards being a more contemporary local government and help Council deliver on the community's vision for our Town.  Significant changes are being made to allow us to be much more open, inclusive, responsive and facilitatory of our community's aspirations.

Some of the initiatives that have been put in place include:

  • Live-streaming of all Council meetings

  • Taking briefing sessions to the community in different locations through our Town

  • Using social media extensively in addition to more traditional communication methods, to keep people informed

  • Providing a creche service to remove barriers for people with young families who want to be involved

  • Genuine engagement with our community so that people can have input into the decisions that affect them.

Our Council consists of seven Councillors who each serve terms of four years.  Terms are staggered so elections are held every two years with half the positions being spilled. There are no wards so all Councillors represent all three suburbs of our Town.
