I am passionate about sustainability & leaving a healthy world for our children to enjoy so I'm proud of the leadership our community is showing.
I have prioritised leadership in environmental, social and financial sustainability, with the Town recently adopting the ten "One Planet Living" principles to guide all that we do and to enable the people of Bassendean to live healthy, happy lives within a fair share of the earth's resources.
Initiatives that have already been undertaken include:
-
the first local government to ban single use plastics
-
early adopters of the three bin system for FOGO (food organics & garden organics) to save our valuable organic waste from going to landfill
-
Plastic Free Bassendean - a partnership with the Boomerang Alliance, working with local business to assist them to be more sustainable
-
Joining "Switch Your Thinking" to provide discounts to our community on sustainable living products and courses.
-
Installation of the Town's first electric car charging station
-
Solar panels on the Town's buildings
-
Providing grants to our community for sustainability initiatives
-
Beginning the transition of our Town's fleet to electric starting with our watering truck
-
Purchase of electric bikes for staff to use instead of taking cars between satellite sites
